Well, the one thing that comes to my mind is Graham’s 2 piece of advice: “Don’t take a single year’s earnings seriously” followed by “If you do pay attention to short-term earnings, look out for booby traps in the (per-share) figures”.

If we’re not supposed to take a single year’s earnings seriously, then it’s probably safe to assume that the same advice applies for a single quarterly report.
